Winter Home

Winter time is a real challenge and a metaphoric opportunity to appreciate the depth and tenacity of the human spirit. So, that's why today's clip art is an igloo. Making a shelter out of blocks of ice is a great example of human creativity and resourcefulness.

According to Anne Bradstreet, who some consider to be the first American poet, "If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome."

These are the words of a true optimist who endured the harsh New England winters of the 1630's to pursue the Puritan dream of colonization for God and country.

About three hundred years later, another woman came to America and purchased her own printing press to self publish her book, "Winter of Artifice".

According to Anais Nin, "Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death."

And then according to Lao Tsu, " Difficult and easy complement each other."

What a lovely hushed-violet background, capturing the feeling of bluish snow shadows. And an interesting combo of references, too.
